The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled the right of journalist Ahmet Şık, who was imprisoned for almost 400 days for propaganda for a terrorist organization while he was a reporter for the Cumhuriyet newspaper. The ECtHR stated that, after the 4-year trial process, it was determined that there was “no suspicion or justification” in the detention of Ahmet Şık for 13 months and 7 days for allegedly propaganda for the FETÖ / PYD and DHKP organizations -C.

According to the VOA Turkish report, the court ruled that Şık’s arrest on charges of terrorist propaganda, despite the fact that he was a journalist, was not based on any suspicion or justified evidence, thus violating Article 5/1 of the ECHR. , which regulates the “quick decision on the legality of the detention.”
