Princess Delphine was born the illegitimate daughter of an 18-year relationship with a barons, in which Albert lived before he became king.
After years of paternity trial, former King Albert admitted to being Delphine’s father in January 2020. The former king, who met his daughter at his castle in the capital Brussels, said in a statement on Sunday that they opened a “new page”.
“WE HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE A NEW PATH TOGETHER”
“After the upheaval, suffering and disability, it is time for forgiveness, healing and reconciliation,” said former King Albert in a statement. We decided to embark on this new path together. “This will require patience and effort, but we are determined.”
PARENTS ACCEPTED AS A RESULT OF DNA TEST
Delphine first claimed to be Albert’s biological father in 2005, but was not sued until he abdicated in 2013. When Albert abdicated in 2013, he lost his immunity from the lawsuits.
By court order, Albert, who underwent a DNA test last January, announced Princess Delphine as his fourth child after learning of the test result. Princess Delphine officially began using Albert’s surname, Saxe-Cobourg. (DHA)
