Famous businessman Jak Kamhi expelled on his last trip

Businessman Jak Kamhi (95) died in Miami, where he was treated. Instructions from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Kamhi’s funeral in Turkey, the coffin wrapped with the Turkish flag was brought. Kamhi’s coffin was brought to the synagogue draped in the Turkish flag. Although the coffin was not removed from the vehicle that was transporting the funeral, a ceremony was held inside the synagogue.

While a limited number of people attended the funeral under the coronavirus measures, members of the press were not included in the religious ceremony. Kamhi’s son Cefi Kamhi, daughter-in-law Yasemin Kamhi, grandchildren Melda Kamhi Kosif, husband Sinan Kosif and Lara Kamhi attended the funeral. In attendance were Turkish Jewish Chief Rabbi İsak Haleva, Presidential Economic Policy Board member Korkmaz Karaca, former Prime Minister Tansu Çiller, Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Beyoğlu Mayor Haydar Ali Yıldız. Wreaths were not accepted for the funeral. After the religious ceremony at the Neve Shalom Synagogue, Kamhi was buried in the Arnavutköy Jewish Cemetery.

Before the ceremony at the Karaköy Kuledibi Büyükhendek Street Synagogue, police checkpoints were set up at the entrances on both sides of the street. In the immediate vicinity, the police took extensive security measures.
