Elon Musk presents his ‘innovative’ chip: Neuralink
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, introduced the Neuralink chip, developed to establish a direct connection between the human brain and the computer. The chip, which received the title of ‘innovative device’ from the US Food and Drug Administration, will be placed in the skull and any device connected to the Internet can be controlled by brain signals.
WALL – Entrepreneur Elon Musk presented his new invention with an online event. The chip called ‘Neuralink’, which aims to establish a connection between the computer and the brain, will be implanted in the skull behind the ear. Musk said his newly developed device could solve various neurological problems and spinal injuries, such as memory loss, depression, blindness, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s in the short term.
The battery will last 1 day, the device has a diameter of 23mm and a thickness of 8mm. Based on the information provided, the chip, which is the size of a coin, can be placed in the skull with a procedure as simple as laser eye surgery. No anesthesia will be required while the device is connected. The device consists of 4 electrode wires, a quarter of the thickness of a human hair, and a chip attached to them, placed behind the ear. Any electronic device that can connect to the Internet with the device can be controlled by brain signals.
Stating that the chip has all the features that can be expected from a smartwatch in the promotion, Musk explained that the device can measure a lot of data such as temperature and pressure. Musk also said the chip could be used to control the autopilot of ‘Tesla’ cars and play computer games in the future.
Although the chip has received the title of “breakthrough device” from the US Food and Drug Administration, human trials have not yet begun. The Neuralink company, founded by Musk in 2016, aimed to produce a high-speed interface between humans and machines. Musk had claimed in recent months that thanks to the technology in question, people would not need to learn a foreign language in just five years. (NEWS CENTER)
