The Edirne Attorney General’s Office issued a statement regarding allegations that former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who has been detained in Edirne F-Type Closed Prison since November 4, 2016, has been unable to meet with his daughters Delal and Dılda Demirtaş.
In a statement made by Başak Demirtaş on his Twitter account, Edirne’s Attorney General denied the allegations after Selahattin Demirtaş said his daughters were not contacted within the scope of the ‘corona virus measures’.
“THE CLAIMS DO NOT REFLECT THE TRUTH”
In the written statement made by the Edirne Attorney General’s Office, in which it indicates that the complaints did not reflect the truth, the following statements were used:
* Allegations that Selahattin Demirtaş, detained in Edirne Type F Closed Penal Institution, was unable to make phone calls and was not allowed to meet with his children in the news and publications published in some media, do not reflect the truth.
* In the field of the fight against the new type of coronavirus (COVID-19), the measures taken by the General Directorate of Sanctions and Detention of the Ministry of Justice in accordance with the recommendations of the Scientific Board of the Ministry of Health are meticulously implemented in Edirne Closed Penal Institution Type F.
* Within the framework of these measures, prisoners and convicts enjoy their visitation rights as closed visions. Once again, in accordance with the recommendations of the Scientific Committee, detainees and convicted persons benefit from the right to closed opinions twice a month, at most with their relatives two by two.
“THEY VISITED 2 TIMES, THEY ACCELERATED THE 8 TIMES”
In the statement, it was claimed that Selahattin Demirtaş used private visitation and telephone conversation rights in August and said:
* Like all prisoners and convicts, Selahattin Demirtaş exercised his right to private visits and phone calls in August. Başak Demirtaş visited her husband Selahattin Demirtaş with their only daughter on 10.08.2020 and with their other daughter on 20.08.2020. Additionally, Selahattin Demirtaş spoke with her family eight times by phone in August.
* The allegations that Selahattin Demirtaş was not allowed to reunite with his daughters and that he was not allowed to make phone calls are unfounded. Measures taken in accordance with the Scientific Committee’s recommendations to protect the health of detainees and convicts in Edirne’s penal institutions are meticulously implemented.
BAŞAK DEMİRTAŞ SHARED FROM TWITTER
Başak Demirtaş tagged the Ministry of Justice and Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gül in his Twitter post and used the following statements:
* Workers who have to work in difficult conditions, public workers, private sector employees, those who sit next to each other on airplanes, those who attend government activities and rallies do not receive crown (! ) But on visits to a closed prison with double glazing and iron bars on both sides, even if they wear masks and visors. Your loved ones are infected with corona (!) Therefore, the opinions were made only once a month.
* Especially when two kids have a closed-door meeting with their parents, they instantly get crown (!). This is exactly the reason why our daughters Delal and Dılda were unable to reunite with their father. Open vision was removed as a crown measure, okay. But why is it blocking closed views? Come on, you blocked it, why don’t you give it visibility on the phone? You said video call, what happened? Why is it usurping our rights?
* Above all, since there is corona risk, why not release politicians, journalists and people whose lives are in danger? Selahattin was not allowed to see our daughters Delal and Dılda together. Selahattin has been able to see his daughters only once, separately since the pandemic began.
