Diyanet earned 2.1 million lira in interest

Interest earned by the Presidency of Religious Affairs has been announced, often hitting the agenda with statements that interest is prohibited.

The Court of Accounts announced in a report that the Presidency of Religious Affairs obtained a total of 2 million 197 thousand 374 TL of interest income last year through the Presidency and Revolving Fund. According to the 2019 Diyanet report of the Court of Accounts sent to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the institution obtained an interest income of TL 259,817 as Presidency and TL 1 million 937 thousand 557 as Revolving Fund. Diyanet had previously announced that this money was transferred directly to the Treasury after discussions on interest rates.

14 THOUSAND LYRA INCREASED

While Diyanet spent 10.4 billion lira in 2019, he also made a net income of 404.5 million lira. Among this income, as in previous years, there was “interest income”. The interest income of the Presidency was 259,817 lire. The other amount was obtained from revolving funds. Diyanet earned 245,520 lire in the previous year and 256,806 lire in 2017.

The 2018 TCA report also included the information that Diyanet earned interest income, and on this, Diyanet made the following statement: As a result, the treasury was paid with interest at the withdrawal stage when it was done. It is not the case that our Presidency earns and uses the interest on its income as a business. This retention interest (recovery, collection) of the personnel is charged to the treasury. ”
