AFAD announced that a 6.6 magnitude earthquake occurred, the epicenter of which was the Aegean Sea off Izmir Seferihisar. The earthquake was felt throughout the Marmara region, including Istanbul.

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya said the following in his statement on the earthquake:
