Following today’s meeting of the CTP Party Assembly, the following statement was made:
“The CTP expressed the need for dialogue, reconciliation and solution during the presidential election process, underlined the magnitude of the problems our people face at home and abroad, and emphasized that these problems can only be overcome with an integrated approach. For this reason, every effort has been made to reduce the tension that arose in the first round of the elections and to invite all parties to the path of reason.
Before the second round of the presidential elections, to be held on October 18, it is of the utmost importance for us to reduce tension and create a discreet environment where our people can freely reflect their will at the polls, within the framework of our faith. in democracy. In this context, we invite our people to embrace democracy and reflect their will at the polls, affirming that all parties must refrain from any movement that disrupts the democratic environment.
Since the day of its foundation, CTP has applied a policy within the framework of bringing the existence, identity and culture of the Turkish Cypriot people to the future, ensuring their social and economic development and reaching a comprehensive solution on the federal basis of the Cyprus problem. . The CTP, which has endeavored to solve all the problems of our people, especially the Cyprus problem, through the method of dialogue based on international law, accepts the policy of reaching a comprehensive solution on the federal basis of the Cyprus problem as one of the basic principles of its Regulations. The CTP, with its years of experience, is also aware that the will of the Turkish Cypriot people to achieve a comprehensive solution constitutes the legitimate foundation of our people’s demand to open up to the world in the conditions prior to the solution and lift the restrictions imposed. in many areas.
In this context, the CTP Party Assembly decided to support Mr. Mustafa Akıncı, who declared that he will serve in line with these principles, between the two candidates who will compete in the second round presidential elections to be held on October 18.

The chairman of the Renaissance Party, Erhan Arıklı, announced that they would support Ersin Tatar. Emphasizing that there were debates at the meeting about which of the candidates who qualified for the second round of the presidential elections would receive support, Arıklı said that some party members wanted the party base freed.
