WALL – In the Netherlands, the army was called in for help due to the inevitable increase in corona virus cases.

In the Netherlands, one of the countries where the appearance of the new mutated variant of the corona virus is observed in the United Kingdom, the increase in cases continues despite the strict precautions applied.

Especially in the eastern and northern regions of the country, many hospitals and care centers are in a difficult situation due to the density of patients and lack of staff.

The Groningen and Twente regions sought help from the armed forces, as many health and sanitation workers caught in Covid-19 were unable to go to work. Groningen Mayor Koen Schuiling said there is an unprecedented need for staff.

With the Twente Security Zone, hospitals also emphasized that there was a very serious increase in the number of admitted patients and reported that Covid-19 services were fully booked. Emphasizing that emergency and intensive care are becoming less available, regional administrators called the military to service.

Gelderland state cities also requested urgent help, citing an alarming situation. The health sector is concerned that if military aid does not arrive, basic care assistance in hospitals and nursing homes will no longer be available.

‘We have received a help screen’

The Dutch Defense Ministry spokesman told RTL News: “The cry for help has reached us. In consultation with the Ministry of Health, we are investigating the possibilities for assistance.”

The Netherlands Security Council, which will meet on Monday, will consider the request for deployment of military personnel in civilian hospitals and nursing homes for the elderly and disabled. (Source: BBC Turkish)
