In England, where the number of coronavirus cases exceeded one million, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced new curfew restrictions that will be valid nationwide. The restrictions will be valid until December 2.
Under the new restrictions announced by Johnson in his televised address, non-key businesses like pubs, restaurants and stores will be closed during the second national restriction period, which will last one month. Social life will be minimized.
Consequently, people from different households cannot be brought together at home. Activities such as walking can only be done with a person from another household.
The restrictions go into effect on Thursday.
However, contrary to the first national restriction in the spring, schools and universities will remain open this time.
Restaurants and cafes may also offer take away food. Health, food and basic needs purchases can be made.
You will also be allowed to go outside to exercise and rest. Children whose parents live apart will also be able to travel between the two houses.
With the new restrictions, international travel is required for business purposes only.
Premier League matches will also continue.
“I really apologize,” Prime Minister Johnson said, stating that he is aware of how difficult this will financially strain companies.
In this period, the salary assistance provided by the state to employees of the workplaces that were closed will continue.
The measures taken are expected to ease the country’s health system before Christmas.
“This year Christmas will be very different, but I hope we can take drastic steps right now to bring families together for Christmas,” Johnson said.
Johnson also added that the restrictions were not as strict as those imposed in March and April in the first wave of the outbreak.
“There may be deaths well above the first wave”
The government launches these restrictions after predictions that the second wave of the epidemic could be much more deadly than the first wave of spring.
One of the models ahead of the UK government predicts that if no restrictions are applied at all, the daily death toll in the winter months could exceed 4,000.
While not all models predict that many deaths, the common point of their model is that the number of hospitalized patients will peak in mid-December.
In England 21,915 new cases of coronavirus were detected today. Since the beginning of the epidemic, the number of people detected infected by coronavirus has increased to 1 million 11 thousand 660.
Among people who tested positive for coronavirus in the past 28 days, the number of people who died today is 326.
