Uğur Şahin, founding partner of the German biotech company BioNtech, and his wife, Dr. In attendance were Özlem Türeci, UNICEF and executives from organizations working to ensure fair access to vaccines.
Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci spoke about the corona virus vaccine that they jointly developed with the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Speaking at the meeting held with the videoconferencing method due to the epidemic, BioNTech company founding partner Uğur Şahin explained the process of vaccination studies. Şahin said, “This is an honor for me. I am proud to share our experiences ”and shared his joy.
“WE HAVE FINALLY ACHIEVED A VACCINATION THAT CAN GET A RESULT”
Noting that they are working to fight serious diseases in their companies, Şahin used the following statements:
* It was necessary to use new technologies and prepare the vaccine. We combined our approaches, we heard that there was an epidemic in Wuhan, on Friday January 24 at night, we learned that there was a new virus in China. There was a virus to which humanity had no immunity. It was a condition with a serious respiratory illness.
* Although some of the infected people had no symptoms, they could be contagious. I called Özlem and told him it was a new and serious epidemic. We prepare a plan and meet with our friends. It was necessary to develop a vaccine against this.
* We mobilize our environment, gather scientists and try not to waste time. These scientists worked on a voluntary basis. We couldn’t work alone, we acted in partnership with Pfizer. A joint study of scientists and experts has been proposed. These efforts led to results and we finally came up with a viable vaccine.
“THE VACCINE MUST BE ACCESSIBLE TO DIFFERENT MASSES ON DIFFERENT SOILS”
Özlem Türeci, one of the founders of BioNTech, another name that played an important role in the search for the Covid-19 vaccine, said:
* We established our company with our desperation. Budgeting has always been a problem for innovation and research. However, despite this, we did our job. What is being said now moves me. In our opinion, the development of the vaccine should spread throughout the world.
* The vaccine must reach different masses in different countries. Our goal is to produce the vaccine as quickly as possible and deliver it to the countries of the world. Effort and cooperation must be global. It is not an independent company, but the UN and governments should be involved in this cooperation. (İHA)
