The incident occurred on September 16 around 9:00 p.m., in the Pandemic 4 section of the Antalya Training and Research Hospital. Hasan B. (51), who is 55 percent visually impaired, sent his mother-in-law Iraz M. (83), whom he had been caring for for 15 years, to her daughter’s home a month ago.

When hot water was poured on the woman on September 13, she was taken to hospital. Hasan B., who went to the Antalya Training and Research Hospital to learn about his mother-in-law, began to stay as a partner of Iraz M., who was taken to the pandemic department.

Upon learning that his mother-in-law was a crown after the Health Ministry called them on September 16, Hasan B. said: ‘My mother-in-law is constantly coughing. She didn’t want to stay with him, saying, ‘I’m afraid he will infect me with the virus.

SECURITY OFFICER TAKES PHOTOS

Hasan B., who continued to stay with Iraz M. because there was no other person accompanying him, allegedly tried to smother his mother-in-law with a pillow.

Seeing the situation, the doctor removed Hasan B. from the room and informed hospital security. Hasan B. re-entered the room before the security guard arrived, covered his mother-in-law’s face with a sheet, put a pillow over her mouth and nose, and began to wait.

Meanwhile, the security guard took a photo of Hasan B. waiting in the room like this. Hasan B., who later left the hospital, was captured and detained at his home the next day. Hasan B. was arrested by the judge on duty where he was taken away.

UP TO 20 YEARS OF PRINTING REQUESTED

The Murder Crimes Investigation Office of the Antalya Prosecutor General’s Office prepared an indictment against Hasan B. on the charge of “attempting to kill a person physically unable to defend himself”. In the indictment accepted by the 6th Antalya High Criminal Court, Hasan B. faces up to 20 years in prison.

In the indictment it was indicated that Hasan B. remained as a companion of the complainant who received treatment with Covid-19 due to the respiratory device, and the following was expressed:

* On the day of the incident, the suspect complainant’s face was covered with a sheet and the pillow was placed in the complainant’s mouth. This situation was noticed by the doctor.

* After some time, the suspect, who was taken out of the room, entered the room where the complainant was being treated, closed the sheet over his face, and placed the pillow back on his face to cover the complainant’s mouth.

* This time, the situation was determined by the hospital security officer and the photograph was taken. In the photograph taken, it was understood that the suspect was waiting next to the complainant, and the complainant waited at his bedside, placing a sheet on his face and covering his mouth and nose with a pillow.

* According to the determined situation, the suspect will cover his face twice and close the pillow to the mouth of the complainant, so that he wants to kill the complainant, since it will prevent him from breathing in this way twice at short intervals for the complainant who is a Covid-19 patient and has difficulty breathing and cannot protect himself. It was concluded that the act of closing the mouth and nose and putting on a pillow should be evaluated as a deliberate killing attempt.

‘I COVERED IT WITH SHEET TO PROTECT ME’

Hasan B. did not accept the accusation and stated the following in his statement:

* I have taken care of my mother-in-law for 15 years. Since my wife has been ill for 6 to 7 years, I take care of her personally. When I found out that my mother-in-law was infected on the day of the incident, I told her doctor that I did not want to stay with her.

* But the doctor said, ‘Then let me write down the mother-in-law’s medicine, take it home. Make yourself at home, ‘he said. I said I couldn’t look home. The phone accidentally hung up while we were talking.

My mother-in-law was naked in bed. Also, I covered him up to forehead level with a chador to protect myself as he was constantly coughing.

* But I didn’t cover the pillow on your face. I put it towards the top of his head. Then I was tested for the possibility of virus infection and then I went home.

It was learned that Iraz M., who was treated for Covid-19 at the hospital, died after a while. Hasan B.’s trial will begin in the next few days. (DHA)
