Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Senegal in the framework of official contacts, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament (EP) to Turkey’s Eastern Mediterranean policy connected through a video conference session in the Mediterranean Committee Oriental.
“WE WILL SEE IF YOU ARE READY IN GREECE”
Chancellor Çavuşoğlu used the following statements:
* We are ready for dialogue without preconditions. If Greece is ready, we say, let’s meet.
* Turkey’s position is in accordance with the decisions of international institutions. Under international law, islets cannot be decisive in maritime rights between countries. However, Greece tries to declare each island within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) with an expansionist approach.
* The representatives of Germany and the EU, especially German Chancellor Angela Merkel, asked us to give diplomacy one last chance. As a final indicator of goodwill, we suspended our planned activities with a serious decision despite the public.
* Turkey and Greece held several meetings with the participation of German representatives. We have decided to publish a statement in August. However, Greece stated that it withdrew from the agreement shortly before the statement was released.
* I can say that Greece is not open to cooperation and dialogue. Everyone was stunned by Greece’s withdrawal from the last minute deal. Greece lost credibility here.
“THE EU GOT A PARTY IN THIS EVENT”
Stating that the EU preferred to be part of the eastern Mediterranean crisis rather than a mediator, Çavuşoğlu said: “The EU has become part of the dispute in this case. If you are a party, how can you be a mediator? It appears that the EU does not have the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice itself in this matter. The EU is no longer loyal to its own law. ”
“THE EU BORDERS WILL START FROM TURKEY”
Çavuşoğlu said:
* We understand the EU principle of solidarity, but our sovereign rights cannot be ignored in the name of this principle.
* Instead of blindly supporting Greece and the Greek Cypriots, the EU should do what is expected of it.
* It is said that the borders of the EU start from Greece. No. Turkey starts from the borders of the EU. We have seen it clearly with the refugee crisis.
“WHY ARE EXISTING RESOURCES NOT SHARED FAIRLY?”
Cavusoglu from Turkey who responded to the words of the target area of MEPs who spoke at the meeting, “Why have not such fair resources been shared?” I ask. Saying “We are ready for a dialogue that will contribute to the fair distribution of resources,” Çavuşoğlu said, “Can anyone ask Greece why it refuses to share fairly? Why is a commission not established within the UN? In our bilateral meetings, the Greek minister recognizes the rights of Turkish Cypriots, but when it comes to making a decision, they do not agree ”.
HAGIAOFIA’S RESPONSE TO THE AP MEMBER
Responding to criticism from an EP member about the construction of Hagia Sophia as a mosque, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said: “Hagia Sophia has been restored to its original by the higher judiciary under the foundations law as it really belongs. It remains open to visitors of all religions. We are aware of our responsibilities regarding human heritage ”. İHA
