British Health Minister Matt Hancock said at a press conference today that the species in South Africa is even more alarming than the variant detected in the UK, it is transmitted faster, it has more mutations.

Stating that this variant was identified in two cases in the UK, they were in contact with people from South Africa, Hancock stated that they quarantined everyone who had the virus and those who were in contact with them.

Hancock did not provide further details on the characteristics of the variant, saying the virus is under investigation.

As a precaution against this, Hancock asked everyone who came to England from South Africa in the past two weeks to self-quarantine for two weeks and stated that these people should not come into contact with anyone.

Following this development, travel restrictions were imposed on South Africa. The restrictions will be tightened in more regions starting this weekend.

FASTER SPREAD OF NEW MUTATIONS

Last weekend he announced that the United Kingdom also detected a new type of coronavirus, mutated, increased restrictions on pre-Christmas celebrations, banned in many countries, including Turkey, travel from England.

The new modified virus type was first detected in September and nearly a quarter of the cases in London in November were found to be related to the new virus type. This rate increased to two-thirds of cases in mid-December. Authorities warned that the new breed was spreading much faster.

Scientists from South Africa announced with the World Health Organization (WHO) that they are examining a new mutated strain of the coronavirus that has caused a rapid increase in the number of cases in some parts of the country.

‘YOUNG PEOPLE ARE MOST AFFECTED’

Known as 501.V2, this strain was identified by a group of scientists led by the Kwazulu-Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform, known shortly as Kriso.

South African Health Minister Zweli Mkhize explained that the 501.V2 variant affects young people more than the previous version of the virus.

“Scientists, clinical epidemiologists present findings that there is a change in appearance. In particular, they point out that the disease rate is increasing in younger patients without chronic diseases,” Mkhize said at a news conference on the subject.

The new species in South Africa was detected in early December. The scientists noticed a number of mutations during their routine research on the virus.

FIRST SEEN IN THE EASTERN CAPE

The new species in South Africa was first detected in the Eastern Cape province. However, it was later seen to extend to the Western Cape and Kwazulu-Natal.

Authorities say the country has seen a second wave and is taking a series of restrictive measures, such as closing some of the main public spaces, such as beaches.

many countries took to suspend flights to South Africa, including Turkey, which is also the same as in England.
