Two suspects captured after Fatma Y.’s complaint were detained in the court where they were referred. The trial of AHY and OT, who were brought by the Antalya General Prosecutor’s Office for ‘deliberate damage to property’, with a sentence of up to 4 years in prison, began the day before in the Eighth Criminal Court of First Instance of Antalya. AHY, one of the arrested defendants, said he was Fatma Y.’s former lover, and that the vehicle he burned was bought with the money she gave, but that it would cover the damages. OT, on the other hand, admitted that he burned the vehicle with pressure from AHY and said: “I am sorry for my action. I want to cover the damage. Speaking to DHA, Fatma Y.’s lawyer, Mehmet Çalık, stated that the crime was not the crime of damaging property as stated in the indictment and said:
“The incident is a crime of persecution. The crime of endangering environmental security. The prosecution did not write anything about this matter in the indictment. There are many files on this person based on my client’s complaint. The prosecution only sued without damaging the property. We object to this accusation. The duty of the prosecutor is to enforce the family protection law. But it does not implement it. On the contrary, it ignores our requests. Also, at this hearing I said something to prevent the defendant from being released: “If this person is released, the file on my client’s murder will reach the same court after a month.” Who will protect my client if the law does not protect the court? I ask this publicly of the Turkish nation. “
Lawyer Çalık said that AHY, which set Fatma Y.’s parked car on fire, told police after the incident: “Fatma’s death will not be clean. It was a pity for himself, ”he said that his words were recorded.
