Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, who met with members of the press in the city in the framework of the Izmir Time Meeting of Common Minds, made a statement on the problem of drought in the city.
Stating that the city is headed for a serious drought problem, Soyer said: “There is an image that is dark enough to say that I am losing sleep. We are going very badly. This concern is not just due to a lack of rain in November. In a very serious way, Smyrna is going into drought. “
Here are Soyer’s explanations:
We had a meeting with our mukhtars in Kiraz a few months ago. One of our mukhtar friends said; “Until 10 years ago, we used to draw water at 5-6 meters. Now we go down to 300 meters, there is no water, ‘he said. This is a very terrible indicator. We squeeze it with our own feet. We got into extremely wrong production processes. For decades we have mixed with product patterns that never should have been. We dry ourselves. We need to change this point of view as soon as possible. We need to create much healthier production patterns and choose products based on the watershed. We need to know the quantity of these and the marketing work. We need to raise awareness about the use of water in agriculture, industry and the home. I am very concerned about the current process.
