Turkey, Izmir’s Seferihisar districts open today at 14:51 in the 6.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred. After the earthquake that caused the buildings to collapse, the director of the Earthquake Research Center of Dokuz Eylül University, Prof. Dr. Hasan Sözbilir told Alper Uruş from HABERTÜRK about seismicity in the region. Here is Prof. Dr. Sözbilir’s remarkable statements:

“A TSUNAMI IS EXPECTED”

“First of all, the earthquake is 5 km north of the island of Samos. Here, 20 km south of our Cape Doganbey, a fault in the sea broke. We should say that there is a normal fault with an east-west extension.

As this is a normal fault, Gümüldür and Seferihisar were located in the descending ring of the broken fault. There was a tsunami threat here and we saw the sea rise. Sığacık, Bornova, Buca and Bayratar were in the descending part of this fault.

“WE WANT A MASTER PLAN FOR 10 YEARS”

For almost 10 years, we have wanted a master plan for earthquakes in Izmir. If this had been done, we would have learned which buildings were not earthquake resistant and these demolitions would not have occurred.

“The magnitude of the earthquake is 7, its severity is 8”

More than 7 earthquakes in this region had been past earthquakes. Currently, some stations give the magnitude of the earthquake as 7. This means that the intensity of this earthquake is 8.

“THE VOLTAGE MAY INCREASE BY KUŞADASI”

It should be noted that about the earthquake; It was an earthquake that was not very concentrated and therefore was felt in many cities. This fault, which is in an east-west direction and is broken, can trigger the Kuşadasi side. Tensions grew in that area. The Menderes and Gümüldür faults are the faults associated with this fault.

“13 FAYDAN 1 KIRILDI, SEFERİHİSAR FAYI KIRILMADI”

The last 5.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in Izmir in 2005. Right now the main impact of the earthquake has occurred. There were 7 thousand earthquakes around Akhisar before the Kovid trial. This earthquake broke the fault north of Samos. The Seferihisar Rift has yet to be broken. There are 13 flaws on the Izmir scale that must be broken. This break was a fault in the sea. “
