President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid a surprise visit yesterday to the chairman of the High Advisory Board of the Felicity Party (SP), Oğuzhan Asiltürk. Asiltürk, whom Erdogan visited at his home in Ankara, is one of the important representatives of the National Vision Movement. On the political backstage, Asiltürk is rumored to have had a disagreement with SP President Temel Karamollaoğlu for a time due to rapprochement with the National Alliance.
Erdogan has intensified his political contacts in recent days. Three days ago, Erdogan visited the president of MHP, Devlet Bahçeli, at his home, and yesterday he visited the president of the SP’s high advisory board, Asiltürk, at his home.
Took an hour
Yesterday no official program for the president was announced. The visit was announced with the statement that “Our president, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will visit Oğuzhan Asiltürk at his home today.”
The visit took place at Asiltürk’s house in the Ankara Bahçelievler district and lasted about an hour. After the visit, Asiltürk, 86, sent Erdogan to his office vehicle. As Erdogan left the Asiltürk house, he greeted the citizens who greeted him from their balconies.
There are differences of opinion with Karamollaoğlu
According to the information reflected in the lobby, there have been political differences between Asiltürk and Karamollaoğlu for a long time. Asiltürk is alleged to have adopted the views of the People’s Alliance backstage and thus contradicted the Karamollaoğlu administration. Behind the scenes, reflections of Erdogan’s visit to the SP yesterday are eagerly awaited.
Who is Asiltürk?
Born in 1935 in the Hekimhan district of Malatya, Asiltürk graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. Asiltürk, who entered politics with the National Salvation Party, served as deputies in Ankara and Malatya. Asiltürk, who also served as the Ministry of Industry-Technology and Home Affairs, received a 10-year political ban after the military coup on September 12. As a result of the referendum held in 1987, this ban was lifted and in 1988 he was elected Secretary General of the Welfare Party. Following the dissolution of the party by the Constitutional Court, he joined the Fazilet Party. After the death of Necmettin Erbakan, he was appointed Chairman of the Felicity Party.
