The increase in occupancy rates at Istanbul dams continues. According to data from İSKİ, the occupancy rate at the dams reached 40.39 percent and the dry areas began to fill with water again. The Terkos and Alibeyköy dams were photographed from the air.
THE WATER IN THE DAMS INCREASED MORE THAN TWO FLOORS IN 22 DAYS
Due to the drought in Istanbul, the occupancy rate of the dams dropped to 19.16 percent on January 9, 2021. Water levels in the dams continue to rise with snowfall first, followed by rain. In the 22 days since the lowest occupancy rate was measured, the occupancy rate at Istanbul dams reached 40.39 percent. With an occupancy rate of 21.23 percent in 22 days, the water in the dams has more than doubled. The occupancy rate at Terkos, one of Istanbul’s most important and largest dams, rose to 39.74. It was measured as 51.65 percent at the Alibeyköy dam. At both dams, previously dry areas began to fill with water again.

Last year, the highest occupancy rate at Istanbul dams was measured in May at 66.58 percent. In the decline that began on this date, the occupancy rate was 41.95 percent in September and 27.66 percent in November. The dam’s occupancy rates, which decreased to 22.32 percent in December, eventually fell to 19.16, the lowest level on January 9, 2021. However, despite the recent increase, the occupancy rate of the dam remained behind last year. Last year, on this date, the occupancy rate of Istanbul’s dams was recorded at 56.74 percent.
