The United States is rocked by organized cyberattacks against the Treasury, Commerce, Energy and Homeland Security ministries, which are believed to have been ongoing for months.
Attacks targeting software developed by US technology company SolarWinds have been detected in the last week, although they have been going on for months.

Noting that the situation in question poses a serious risk to national security, Joe Biden accused the current president, Donald Trump, of leaving the United States vulnerable to cyberattacks.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Wilmington, Biden said: “I see no evidence that the cyberattack is under control.”
Biden, who defeated Trump in the November election, said that after taking office in January he would take action against cyberattacks, but did not elaborate.
Speaking to Reuters, officials said the Biden administration’s options to punish Moscow for its alleged role include financial sanctions and retaliatory cyberattacks against Russia’s tech infrastructure.
Russia denies any involvement in the attacks.

The attackers gained access to the systems of some major institutions by interfering with the network management software developed by the Texas-based IT company SolarWinds.

The attackers are believed to be aiming to steal important information on national security, defense, and other critical topics.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Russia was behind the attacks that he described as the worst cyber espionage activity against the US state.
