President Erdoğan attended the 4th International Women and Justice Summit, organized by the Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) and the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, with the theme “Remaining human in the digital age” via videoconference. Stating that they show increased sensitivity to solving problems faced by women, such as violence and discrimination, President Erdogan said: “We use all means of technology in our efforts. “We will continue our journey without forgetting that strong women are at the heart of a strong family and that women’s strength comes from respect for them and the opportunity to exercise their rights.”
Underlining that the world is experiencing the pain of the shaking of the global, political and economic balances of power that have lasted for about a century, Erdogan said: “The corona virus epidemic has accelerated this shaking. It has revealed that the political and economic power experienced by developed countries in the fight against the epidemic is not enough on its own and that a fair distribution is absolutely necessary. Of course, if you ask if this lesson has been understood well enough, we still cannot see its signs. On the contrary, we are witnessing an attempt to cover up this deficiency by blaming asylum seekers, foreigners and Muslims ”.
Erdoğan highlighted that a similar threat is also experienced in digitization, Erdogan said: “The greatest weakness of digitization, which is increasingly widespread in all fields, from security to education, from health to energy, from individual habits to business activities, is the monopolization of data control. This distorted situation, in which a small number of companies control the world’s digital data, is a harbinger of big problems to be experienced in the future. “It is not difficult to predict the problems that such concentration of power will cause in a period when even the wars in the world have gone digital.”
Erdogan stated that it is necessary to fight against digital fascism completely: “This radical change in the traditional way of life of the people in a short period of a quarter of a century will lead to modern slavery unless it is supported by the correct infrastructure and managed with a fair understanding. It is everyone’s duty to protect humanity from this threat, which has suffered from ethnic and religious fascism for centuries and has paid the high price of colonialism and insatiable greed for profit. Digitization, which sees the individual as a name or a number, leads to fascism. We must fight together against digital fascism and seek solutions together. Of course, when I say this, I don’t mean to reject digitization. Every innovation that will facilitate human life has its place in our heads. It should be avoided that the responsibility of both the technology developer and the producer is limited to the user, only at the income level. Digitization, which sees people as a whole with their material and spiritual existence, will bring good results for all of us. Otherwise, the world will face new conflicts, struggles and even threats of war. We hope that new injustices, injustices and marginalization do not arise through digitization.
Erdogan made the following statements in his speech:
“Turkey has reached a fairly good level of digitization. The volume of the information and technology sector in our country has gone from 20 billion dollars to 132 billion dollars in 18 years. The investments of the sector in our country have exceeded 100 billion lira. The number of subscribers benefiting from mobile services reached the same number as our population. The number of broadband Internet subscribers exceeded 77 million, fixed broadband subscribers 14 million, fiber optic subscribers 3.5 million, machine-to-machine communications subscribers 6 million. To continue with this process, investments in infrastructure must be made in the most effective and efficient way. Our goal is not to leave a single footprint that does not is covered by the communications infrastructure of our country. We switched to the 4.5G structure in 2016. Now we are in the 5G process. That was what e I expressed at that time. But we had a little difficulty understanding. 5G, which will bring rapid transformation in the industry, will form the basic infrastructure of many areas, such as smart cities, smart transportation systems, and smart hospitals. We cannot carry out this process without installing the native 5G technology infrastructure. Therefore, I hope that all our institutions and companies act quickly, efficiently and decisively. We mobilize all our means for the development of national and national innovative technologies to cover all institutions and people in our country, especially the public. Turkey, the recent cyberattacks is one of the countries with the most goals. The number of cyberattacks against our country, which did not reach 9 thousand in 2016, is now expressed at 100 thousand. The way to repel attacks that are used with smart systems is to develop and use smarter systems. The more important the security of our borders, the more important the security of our electronic systems and the data stored there. In Turkey the data must remain with the understanding that we started working in Turkey we still could not get where we want. Hopefully, we will reach our goals in this regard as soon as possible. “
