On Friday 10.30.2020, at 2:51 p.m., an earthquake of magnitude 6.6 occurred off the Seferihisar in the Aegean Sea. The distance from the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 16.54 km to the Seferihisar district of İzmir, which is the closest settlement unit, is 17.26 km. After the earthquake, there were a total of 211 aftershocks, 23 of which were greater than 4 in magnitude.
According to the first information received from SAKOM, a total of 17 citizens lost their lives, one of them due to drowning. A total of 763 citizens were injured, 702 in Izmir, 5 in Manisa, 2 in Balıkesir and 54 in Aydın. Search and rescue activities have been completed in 4 buildings out of 17 buildings in İzmir; Work continues on 13 buildings. 3,204 search and rescue personnel, 20 search and rescue dogs and 450 vehicles from AFAD, JAK, NGOs and municipalities were assigned for these search and rescue activities.
After the earthquake that was felt throughout the Aegean region, field exploration studies continue in all provinces affected by the earthquake, especially in Izmir. In addition, the Gendarmerie, Police and TSK carry out aerial scanning and image transfer studies with the support of JIKU, helicopters and UAVs.
After the earthquake, all ministerial and provincial disaster and emergency management centers were on alert; Search and rescue personnel from 40 AFAD provincial / union directorates were dispatched to the region. All the provincial and union directorates of the AFAD throughout the country have been put under surveillance. In addition, search and rescue teams from JAK and non-governmental organizations were dispatched to the region. With 3 military cargo planes from Ankara, Erzurum and Diyarbakır, search and rescue personnel from AFAD and JAK, as well as vehicles and equipment, were dispatched to the region. The plane carrying the search and rescue team and vehicles from Ankara to the region landed at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport at 7.30pm. A total of 3 mobile coordination trucks from Sakarya, Bursa and Afyon were dispatched to the region.
To meet the urgent need for shelter, AFAD sent 960 tents, 4,500 blankets, 3,672 beds, 3,000 pillows and 3,000 sets of sheets to the region; The Turkish Red Crescent sent 10 tents, 18 general-purpose tents and 1,431 blankets. further 79 staff, 70 volunteers, 17 vehicles, 5 catering vehicles, 5 mobile kitchens and 83,593 supplies (catering and beverages) were sent to the region by the Turkish Red Crescent; Soup is distributed to 17,000 people.
325 employees of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization have been assigned to work in the area for damage assessment and debris removal. 110 people from the psychosocial work group began their work in the earthquake zone with 137 vehicles. 114,460 masks and 5,000 disinfectants were sent to the region to be distributed by the Red Crescent public health and psychosocial support teams. 292 staff members, including 260 riot police and 32 traffic staff from the Traffic Safety Task Force, were dispatched to the scene.
In the region, 232 vehicles and 832 UMKE personnel and 112 Emergency teams were assigned. According to information provided by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, there are power outages in 87 fields and service outages in 73 fields in İzmir, Muğla and Aydın provinces, and teams are working to eliminate the outages. A total of 34 mobile base stations have been dispatched to the region.
3,000,000 TL from AFAD to be used in the studies carried out in the region; The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services sent an emergency aid of 5,000,000 TL.
In accordance with Turkey’s Disaster Response Plan, search and rescue, health, in order to run without interruption of support work, the Presidency of Disaster Management and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior (AFAD) in coordination with all working groups, was activated by the operation of 7 days 24 hours.

Damaged structures in the disaster area should never be entered. Roads should be left empty for emergency vehicles. When leaving homes after the earthquake, if there is no smell of natural gas in the environment, the natural gas and water valves and electrical switches should be turned off. Our citizens should not use their phones unless they need urgent assistance. Support should be provided for infants, children, the elderly and people with disabilities who may need assistance.
Events and seismic activity in the region are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the AFAD of the Ministry of the Interior.
