The heavy snowfall transitions, which were interrupted yesterday at noon in Istanbul, became effective again with the reinforcement of the wind from the north directions as of early morning (05:00) today. Consecutive air masses caused heavy snowfall on both sides of Istanbul, while a snow accumulation in the range of 5 to 10 cm was measured in addition to the existing snow thickness throughout the city. While there were some traffic disruptions in the morning hours due to sudden snowfall in a short time, IMM teams intervened at the locations where the notice was received and provided the traffic flow. Traffic disruptions occurred, especially in the Kadıköy, Üsküdar, Sarıyer, Şişli and Beşiktaş districts.

A SNOW THICKNESS OF 70 CM HAS BEEN MEASURED IN SILE

According to AKOM data, which includes information on today’s snow depth; It reached 60-70 cm in the Darlık and Ağva de Şile regions. Thickness of snow in other parts of the city; It was measured as 40 cm at Hadımköy, 35 at Beykoz, 30 cm at Şişli and 30 cm at Arnavutköy.

30 ANIMALS RECOVERED BY EXECUTIVE TEAMS

In light of the incoming data, teams will intervene on snow puddles and icing at critical points such as overpasses, bus stops, squares. The IBB Road maintenance team has dumped 73,465 tons of salt and 194 tons of solution so far.

IMM CONTINUES TO MAKE HOMELESS CITIZENS

Homeless citizens living on the streets are housed in IMM facilities set up for the homeless after being persuaded by police teams and undergoing medical checks. Currently, a total of 412 homeless citizens are housed, 220 in Esenyurt, 162 in Florya and 30 in Kayışdağ. As of December 4, 2020, a total of 1,539 homeless citizens have been housed in IMM camps. In addition, 136 people, mostly families with children, were placed in hotels contracted by IMM.

During the studies carried out by the teams of the Directorate of Veterinary Services for feeding street animals, dry food with high nutritional value was regularly left at 200 points.

MOBILE BUFFETS LOCATED AT 6 POINTS

Despite the scenario of citizens who prefer to use their personal car in heavy snowfalls to stay in traffic, IMM offers mobile kiosks that offer hot drink, soup and water service; Mahmut Bey and Kavacık, at the Martyrs Bridge toll booths on July 15; Sirinevler, Cevizlibağ and Avcılar placed at critical points such as the entrances to the metrobus. Between February 12 and 17, 19,000 teas, soups and cakes were served to citizens through mobile kiosks.

7 THOUSAND STAFF IN THE FIELD

IMM took all measures to ensure that life in the city continues on its normal course. This year, IMM works with 1,351 vehicles and 7,031 personnel in its efforts to combat winter conditions. Teams ready to wait, snow plows and salting workers carry out intervention and negativity work in 434 intervention points of the 4 thousand 23 km of the responsible road network in Istanbul.
