Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that Shusha, the symbolic city of Nagorno-Karabakh, was liberated from occupation.
In his address to the nation, Aliyev broke the good news that Shusha, who has been under occupation for 28 years, has been saved.
Ilham Aliyev, who first visited the grave of the late President Heydar Aliyev, laid a wreath on the grave. Here the Azerbaijani National Anthem was sung and Aliyev was silent. Aliyev, who was wearing a military uniform, was accompanied by his wife Mihriban Aliyeva.
Aliyev then visited Baku Street of the Martyrs, where the martyrs of January 20 were buried. Aliyev laid a wreath at the Monument to Eternal Fire and made his address to the nation here.

Ilham Aliyev congratulated the people by announcing that Azerbaijani soldiers saved the city of Shusha. Emphasizing that this day will remain an important day in the history of Azerbaijan, Aliyev said: “Shusha has a special place in the history of Azerbaijan. Shusha is the pearl not only of Azerbaijan but of the entire Caucasus. After 28 years, the voice of prayer will be heard in Shusha. ”
Shusha was occupied by Armenia on May 8, 1992.
Established by Karabakh khan Penahali khan in 1752, Shusha is an important city not only for Shusans but also for all Azerbaijanis as it has many historical monuments and many distinguished scientists and cultural figures were born here.
Apart from being a city that is one of the symbols of Azerbaijani history and culture, Shusha is strategically important as it is located on the road to Khankendi, the largest city in Nagorno-Karabakh and its dominant geographical position in the region.
In the operation that started in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 27, the Azerbaijani army liberated 4 city centers, 3 cities and around 220 villages and some important hills from the occupation of Armenia.

Ilham Aliyev said the call to prayer will be heard in Shusha 28 years later: “Our victory march continues. If the Armenian administration does not respond to my demands, we will go to the end.”

Ilham Aliyev said: “The blood of the victims of Khojaly did not remain on the ground, it took revenge on our martyrs. Let us take revenge on the battlefield.”
