Following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that collapsed dozens of buildings in Izmir, search and rescue efforts continue.

After the 15-second disaster, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli went to the city and spoke by phone with a citizen who was waiting to be rescued, climbing over the rubble of a collapsed building in Bayraklı. The adviser to Minister Pakdemirli also filmed this meeting. Citizens accused Bekir Pakdemirli of doing a show on social media.

Pakdemirli, while talking to the earthquake victim, whom he called ‘Buse’, gave the following response when he said: “I make a cat sound”: Very good idea. We sent a dog and you make cat noise. Keep your spirits up, Buse.

Pakdemirli’s phone call as he stood on top of the rubble where dozens of people are struggling to survive caused a huge reaction. Thousands of people on social media accused Pakdemirli of doing a show.
