After the post-Brexit trade deal between the UK and the European Union (EU) was reached, a press conference was held at the Prime Minister’s office. Johnson argued that it was “good business for all of Europe” while the text of the agreement has not yet been published.
“We have completed the largest deal worth £ 668 billion a year,” said Boris Johnson. “An agreement that will protect jobs in this country and ensure that UK products can be sold on the EU market without quotas, without tariffs.”
Johnson stressed that the deal will also allow UK companies to do even more business with their “European friends.”
Prime Minister Johnson said: “We have regained control of our money, borders, laws, trade and fishing waters,” and expressed hope that the British Parliament will vote on the deal on December 30.
The opposition Labor Party, which is expected to support the deal substantially, announced that an official statement will be made “when the time comes.”
Britain is preparing to exit the EU trade rules next Thursday, 1 year after officially leaving the 27-member EU. With the UK and the EU forming two separate markets and the end of free movement, big changes are expected for the business world.
The full text of the free trade agreement is expected to be published in the next few days. Johnson also posted a photo on his Twitter account after the deal, dropping the “Agreement Done” note. (İHA)
