Aslı Özk Cornlar (37), who tried to earn a living by making and selling jewelry in Izmir and suffering from rheumatic disease, died in Izmir supposedly because he could not find a bed in hospitals.

Izmir’s deputy lawyer, Sevda Erdan Kılıç, brought Ozkirs’s death to Parliament. The CHP deputy, who asked a parliamentary question on the matter with the response of Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, used the following statements about the incident:

“Following the increase of the Covid-19 epidemic, Izmir, like many other provinces, has gone from the orange category to the red category. With the increase in the number of coronavirus patients, the density in hospitals has increased and the patients have not been found.

Trying to earn a living by selling jewelry at Alsancak Sevgi Yolu in Izmir and searching for an empty bed in hospitals for almost a month due to her illness, Aslı Özk Corners passed away because there were no beds in hospitals and her treatment was delayed. In this process, Özk Corners, whose heart stopped twice and has a chronic rheumatic disease, made calls to the Minister of Health, Fahrettin Koca, from his social media account during his life; “I have been waiting for hospitalization for almost 10 days. No beds. But you do your congress. What is the meaning of the pain I suffered? After all, he tweeted ‘I’ve been waiting for an empty hospital bed for 20 days … Enough of this nation’s neck.’

Sevda Erdan Kılıç asked Health Minister Koca the following questions in her motion:

1- Is it true that Aslı Özk Mısırlar died because there were no beds in the hospitals?

2- What is the normal capacity of service beds in public and private hospitals in Izmir?

3- What is the ratio of intensive care capacity in these hospitals?

4- What is the normal occupancy rate for the service and intensive care?

5- How many people have lost their lives in Izmir due to the pandemic so far?

6- How many patients with the corona virus were recovered in state and private hospitals in İzmir?

7- Has an investigation been launched against the persons allegedly responsible for the death of Aslı Özkürelar?

8- Have you resigned or thought about quitting smoking during the pandemic period?

EXPLANATION OF THE PROVINCIAL HEALTH OFFICE

A statement was made about the death of Aslı Özkemişlar from the İzmir Provincial Health Directorate.

The statement read:

“Due to the different comments and accusations about our patient AÖ.

In the preliminary examination of the news in question, it was understood that our patient, who had been followed for 10 years with a prediagnosis of relapsing polychondritis and Cogan’s syndrome and using immunosuppressive therapy, had previously undergone angiography and stent implantation due to aneurysm and abdominal aortic thrombus.

At the rheumatology outpatient clinic of the Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital, where he applied on 03.10.2021, it was recommended to be hospitalized and under surveillance with the same diagnosis. However, our doctor, who followed the patient’s chronic disease, decided to postpone admission to the rheumatology service until the appropriate conditions were provided, although the hospital beds were not fully occupied, so as not to run any risk, considering COVID 19 epidemic and the use of immunosuppressants by the patient, arguing that there was no emergency situation.

However, our patient was taken from his home to the Emergency Department of İzmir Kâtip Çelebi Atatürk Research and Training Hospital with complaints of nausea, vomiting and palpitations on 03/31/2021 at 11:50 PM. The patient, whose general condition was precarious, hypotensive and septic, underwent all the necessary examinations, and a tomography and CT angiography were performed. The PCR test was performed and was negative. The patient, who presented a generalized effusion in addition to aortic aneurysm, was evaluated by cardiovascular surgery, cardiology and anesthesiologists, and in this case urgent surgery was not considered and was observed in the emergency room for close follow-up.

The patient, whose general condition worsened the following day, was intubated with the diagnosis of Cogan’s Syndrome + pulmonary edema and was transferred to the intensive care unit of the Ege Yaşam Private Hospital by ambulance, considering the risk in the intensive care unit of our hospital. CPR (resuscitation) was applied to the patient who developed an arrest during admission to this hospital and was treated in the intensive care unit. However, our patient died in the intensive care unit one day later, on 04/02/2021.

Patients who receive immunosuppressive treatment and had to go to our hospitals during the epidemic are approached with care and care is taken not to be hospitalized with patients at risk. The disappearance of our patient has nothing to do with the absence of a bed in our hospital or relevant city. However, a detailed investigation into the process continues.

Announced to the public “.
