The 12-year-old boy living in Denver, Colorado, USA, was said to have been hospitalized due to the endurance challenge known as ‘Blackout Challenge’ on TikTok and his condition was critical.
The family of 12-year-old Joshua Haileyesus said they believed their son had attempted a challenge on Tiktok, leaving him breathless until he lost consciousness.
Joshua’s brother said he found his brother ecstatic on the bathroom floor on March 22 and “Joshua used a shoelace to attempt the challenge. “This causes people to suffocate to the point of losing consciousness.”
Doctors, on the other hand, said that Joshua’s brain death had occurred and could not be saved. Describing these moments, Father Zeryihun Haileyesus said: “They gave me the bad news that they would not survive, that they would not succeed. I asked them if they would give them a little more time to resign.”
“He is a warrior. I can see him fight. I pray for him every day,” Zeryihun said on the television show he was connected to.
Still hoping their 12-year-old son will be saved, the family warned other families of the dangers that could arise from social media platforms becoming a trend for such “challenges.”
