Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu made a statement on his social media account about the cancellation of the Istanbul Convention. Soylu said the following:
“We, as security forces, take our power from the constitution, the laws and the principle of protecting the innocence of our people against all kinds of crimes, in guaranteeing peace, order and security in our country, in the fight against terrorism, robbery, organized crime, computer crime, drugs and violence, all kinds of crimes.
The existence or absence of international conventions does not reduce or increase our responsibilities to prevent any form of crime that our citizens and our work will face as a requirement of this responsibility.
It should also be taken into account that leaving the party is a right of every sovereign state, in addition to being a party to international treaties and conventions.
Combating violence against women and in the family is not the existence of the Istanbul Convention that makes us responsible to our society for preventing femicide. Article 10 and article 41 of the Constitution, the relevant articles of the TCK, the relevant articles of the “Law No. 6284 on the Protection of the Family and Prevention of Violence against Women”, the action plan that we carry out with the ministries on this issue, the Kades, Electronic We believe that practices such as the Wife Monitoring Center, the “Office to Combat Violence against the Family and Women”, which we have expanded throughout the country and at the district level, increasing the number from 81 to 1086, and the process that we carry out in harmony with all the ministries will not embarrass us against our citizens in this fight.
Our Constitution, our laws, our civilization and all the values of our duties that they impose on us and responsibilities to fully subscribe to the international contractually and to equalize, both in our own great state tradition, both in our millenary civilization and in experience, both in the region with the development revealed and Turkey has become a major force in the world will be unfair to its self-confidence, skills and ability.
It is unacceptable for human beings for a woman to be subjected to violence and a woman to be killed. However, the rise in rhetoric of murders of women in Turkey is a complete lie and is not supported by the available data.
While we fight with all crimes, our state and security forces will, of course, continue the fight against violence within the family and against women in the framework of human rights, with the understanding of “peace, trust and order” , with the awareness that our citizens deserve the best of everything, today and tomorrow.
In the near future, everyone will see that we will obtain the positive results of all the steps taken in the fight against violence in the family and against women and we will be the exemplary representative of this fight in the world. It is advertised to the public with respect and faith. “
