Galatasaray legendary player Erhan onalannounced his death on social media.
In the statement made by the club, we have learned with deep regret the news of the death of Erhan Önal, who wore the Galatasaray shirt between 1985 and 1992, with the registration number 9304 of our club.
WHO IS ERHAN ÖNAL?
Born in Munich on September 3, 1957, Önal started playing soccer at Shwarz Weiss Munich. He moved to Bayern Munich in 1972, promoted to the A team in 1976 and became the first Turk to play soccer in the Bundesliga. In 1978, he moved to the Standard Liege team from Belgium. In January 1982, Fenerbahçe, with Ali Şen, had a quick transfer. However, they were left out of the squad after a defeat by Galatasaray after just 7 games. He returned to S.Liege at the end of the season. Erhan Önal’s adventure in Galatasaray began in 1985 under Derwall’s leadership. He won 2 league and 2 cup championships in 7 successful seasons.
He scored 12 goals in 185 games, became a national 14 times. He was on the field in a 5-0 win for Neuchâtel in their 3-0 rematch in 1988. Fans and teammates nicknamed him “The Priest” because of his distinctive style and beard. Önal left football in 1992 and started working as a coach.
Erhan Önal’s daughter Bige Önal recently made a name for herself with the production called Bir Başkdür.
