36-day challenge: what did the pilot do to survive?

The pilot Antonio Sena, who flew with a single-engine Cessna 210 aircraft in January in Brazil, made an emergency landing in the Amazon rainforest as a result of a malfunction in the aircraft’s engine and was not heard from for 36 days.

Search and rescue teams trying to find Sena had given up hope for Sena and were unable to reach the wreckage or Sena during search and rescue efforts.

LIVED 36 DAYS IN THE FOREST

Noting that some birds were fed eggs and plants in the forest, Sena said that after 36 days, she came across a group collecting chestnuts by chance and was rescued.

Speaking to local media, Sena said: “The only thing that gave me strength to survive was love for my family.”

SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAMS THINK THEY DIED

Sena was said to have jumped from the plane after the emergency landing and the plane crashed to the ground burned by flames.

Realizing that the plane had disappeared from radar, authorities began looking everywhere for Sena. Discouraged by Sena, officials were unable to reach the plane wreckage or Sena during a week of search and rescue efforts.

Thinking that Sena was dead, the search and rescue teams decided to complete the search and rescue work.
