WELCOME WITH SONGS
After his contacts in Baghdad, Pope Françesko, who met with the leader of the Iraqi Shiites, Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, in Najaf on Saturday, went to the KRG capital Erbil on Sunday. The Pope was received by KRG President Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and religious representatives at Erbil International Airport. Children dressed in local clothing at the ceremony welcomed the Pope with olive branches, green leaves and flowers while singing hymns.
THE MONEY WAS PRESENTED BARZANILER
The KRG Ministry of Communications printed 6 commemorative stamps to commemorate the visit. The Barzani family also personally promoted the stamps to Pope Françesko. However, in one of Turkey’s main responses to a scandal signature stamp it appeared thrown. The figures of Pope Francesco seen in the background of the stamp that includes maps, many of the eastern and southeastern provinces of Turkey of the Iraqi Kurdish regional government and included in the so-called ‘Greater Kurdistan’ were propagandized. Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni described the pope’s visit, which ended Monday, as a show of love for Iraq and its people.
BIDEN PROMOTES THE POPE’S VISIT
US President Joe Biden declared that Pope Françesko’s visit to Iraq is “a symbol of hope for the whole world.” In his written statement on the Pope’s visit to Iraq, Biden stressed that the Pope’s first visit to Iraq was a “historic” and “welcome” situation, saying: “This visit is important, as Pope Françesko himself said. He sent a message; Fraternity is stronger than the murder of brothers, hope is stronger than death, peace is stronger than war ”.
Biden also recalled in his statement that the Pope visited the holy sites in Iraq and met with Ayatollah Ali al-Husseyni as-Sistani, the highest religious authority of the Shiites in Najaf. Noting that the Pope performed a ritual in Mosul under the control of the terrorist organization DAESH until a few years ago, Biden said: “These are all symbols of hope for the whole world.” In his statement, Biden said: “We will continue to admire the Pope for his devotion to glorifying religious tolerance, the common ties of humanity and interreligious understanding.”
