Highlights from President Erdogan’s speech:
Yeşilçam comes to mind when it comes to Turkish cinema. Atlas Cinema is also a place identified with the masters, whose name is the symbol of an era with the films shot in Yeşilçam and who have established a throne in our hearts. It is also one of the most beautiful architectural works in Istanbul with its historic building in the 1870s during the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz.
‘IMPORTANT INTERNATIONAL AWARDS WILL BE SHOWN HERE’
We renew the Atlas Cinema, which has been serving the people of Istanbul since 1948, in keeping with its original. Now, the most treasured works of cinema, including gala and premiere screenings, will be able to meet with the public. With its storied past and modern infrastructure, Atlas Cinema will also be a living museum. All the important national and international awards obtained by the cinema of our country will also be exhibited here. It is one of our primary duties to present the deep-rooted unity we have in the field of culture and art to all humanity alongside our citizens.
President Erdogan spoke with artists Ediz Hun and Serdar Gökhan.
The most important indication that we are a country with a shining star is that the number of foreign tourists we receive has reached 52 million. We know that standardization will reach a much higher number of tourists. In all the places that eliminate or ease travel restrictions, reservations for our country are booming. As always, Istanbul is our greatest asset in tourism and art today. I think we have not yet been able to use this beautiful city properly. When we look at this table, we can say that Istanbul only has the potential to host 100 million tourists. We need to mobilize our potential for history, culture, art, and human treasure.
Although we increased the number of spaces where cultural and artistic activities take place from 858 to 4,139, we have increased the number of our activities from 34,000 to 110,000.
Our goal is to raise the Taksim Mosque to the month of Ramadan next year.
Hopefully, we will put our Atatürk Cultural Center, which we plan to open at the end of this year, at the service of the people of Istanbul no later than the middle of next year due to the epidemic.
Galataport is a global project with the potential of 25 million visitors, 7 million tourists and 1.5 million cruise passengers. Hopefully, we expect Galataport to be operational starting in April.
The more we preserve our historical and cultural wealth, the more we earn.
