According to the news reported by Reuters as last minute, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Fukushima region of Japan.

No tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake.

According to a statement from the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake occurred in an area near Fukushima beach and 60 kilometers deep underground.

The earthquake was also reported to have been felt in Tokyo and buildings shook.

Following the magnitude 9 earthquake and tsunami that struck northeast Japan in March 2011, Fukushima suffered extensive destruction and the radioactive leak at the Daiiçi nuclear power plant caused a major disaster.

After the accident that caused the second largest nuclear disaster in the world, 25 years after Chernobyl, 160,000 people living in the region were evacuated. The earthquake and the tsunami nightmare killed 19,000 people.
