The newly established faculties will also provide assistance to Bulu

On Saturday February 6, the decision of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to open the Faculty of Communication and Law at Boğaziçi University was published in the Official Gazette.

Constitutional professor Kemal Gözler wrote an article on the decision and drew attention to the fact that the government recently made such important decisions on Saturday morning.

Gözler, “Why are the Faculties of Law and Communication now established at Boğaziçi University?” “We will probably see that in the next few days, deans will be appointed from outside to the Faculties of Law and Communication of Boğaziçi University and that the members of the faculty will be immediately announced for these faculties. Once again, these cadres will be full of Faculty members, don’t be surprised at all. Therefore, esteemed Chancellor Bulu will finally be able to appoint the vice chancellors and advisers he needs from among these new faculty members. ” responded in the form.

This is what Gözler reported in his article:

“THE GOVERNMENT IS NOW ISSUING IMPORTANT DECISIONS AGAINST THE MORNING OF THE HOLIDAY”

“Beware of the Official Gazettes published on Saturdays against the morning!

Mr. İrfan Fidan was appointed a member of the Constitutional Court with the appointment decision in the Official Gazette of January 23, 2021, which was published on Saturday morning.

Mr. Melih Bulu was appointed Rector of Boğaziçi University with the appointment decision in the Official Gazette of January 2, 2021, which was published on a Saturday morning. The government now prefers to publish important decisions in the morning on a public holiday!

Now, every Saturday morning, we have made a habit of looking in the Official Gazette at the beginning of the day! “

“WHY ARE TWO FACULTIES ESTABLISHED NOW?”

“Professor Dr. Melih Bulu was appointed Rector of Boğaziçi University on January 2, 2021. But the University did not accept Mr. Rector and received reactions. These reactions still continue. Including two faculty members of Rector Melih Bulu He will support himself at Boğaziçi University It is said that he was only able to appoint one Vice Chancellor per month, and all the faculty members who received an offer rejected Mr. Bulu’s offers.

If these claims are true, it is clear that the venerable Rector Melih Bulu of Boğaziçi University will not be able to form a University Executive Board and a University Senate to support him. As long as the composition of the faculty members of Boğaziçi University continues in this way, it is impossible for Rector Melih Bulu to manage the University. Because the authorized boards of the University will never be formed, or these boards will be made up of members of the faculty who oppose Melih Bulu and the Rector will not be able to make the decisions that he wants from these boards.

This is probably the reason why two new faculties were established at Boğaziçi University on a Saturday morning. We will probably see that in the coming days external deans for the Faculties of Law and Communication of Boğaziçi University will be appointed and that the teaching staff of these faculties will be announced immediately. Again, these positions are most likely filled by faculty members who would not surprise us. Again, we will probably see that the executive boards of Boğaziçi University will be formed from these newly appointed members of the faculty. Consequently, the venerable Rector Bulu will finally be able to appoint the vice-rectors and advisers he needs from among these new professors.

I would not be surprised if a theology faculty was established at Boğaziçi University in the next few days. As of 2019, 99 in the Turkish Islamic Sciences theology faculty or (as is more likely the number is 2021). Boğaziçi University is one of the few state universities that has not established a theology faculty. Our faculty of theology is made up of professors who are in tremendous growth and expansion in Turkey. On this topic I published the “Where is theology going?”, Which I published on November 3, 2019 and contains a lot of statistical data. The University of Boğaziçi must not be deprived of this valuable contribution from the faculties of theology which led all the founded universities to extraordinary development.

If these are not enough to establish full control over Boğaziçi University, it is possible to apply many other methods applied in other universities, such as dividing the university in two.

These are not things that I have imagined. We witnessed that all of this was done at many universities in the past. There are various methods used by the government in the process of dominating universities. The application of these methods has just started at Boğaziçi University. Today, all the methods used in the past were used as in many Bogazici University universities in Turkey. “

“NO PUBLIC BENEFIT FROM ESTABLISHING A FACULTY OF LAW FOR BO FORAZİÇİ”

“Certainly some readers may think that the government can be benevolent, perhaps because the government has decided to establish a law school at Boğaziçi University because it sees the public interest. I don’t think so: there is no public interest in establishing a school of law at the University of Boğaziçi.

As of 2019, there are a total of 82 law schools in Turkey. (By 2021, the number will likely be higher.) As of the 2018-2019 academic year, a total of law faculties in Turkey study 82322 (eighty-two thousand three hundred and twenty-two) students. These figures instead of the needs of Turkey, but it is too much. For my criticisms on this topic, see my article “Devaluation of the Academy.”

Today there are so many law schools in Turkey that most of them will not meet on the course even with law professors. 20 out of 82 law schools in Turkey as of 2019, their lawyers could not even find a dean. How painful it is that our 20 law schools are run by deans who are not lawyers, such as theologians, farmers, doctors and chemists. Additionally, 29 are located in Istanbul out of 82 law schools in Turkey as of 2019.

What’s the point of establishing another law school in a city with 29 law schools? From Turkey, in Istanbul, there is no need for a new law school. which is probably the lower of the two universities, a law school in Turkey undoubtedly Bogazici University and Stanford University. Establishing a law school at these two universities is not compatible with the existence and spirit of these universities. Probably for this reason, a law school has not been established in these two universities, which are among the old universities of our country. If there are those who still think that the Faculty of Law was established in good faith at Boğaziçi University, I would like to tell you this: when you see who the newly appointed faculty members are for the Faculty of Law of Boğaziçi University in the next few days, I have no doubts on this subject.
