New declaration of the Istanbul governorate on the Bosphorus protests

The Istanbul governorate continues with its statements about the protests at Boğaziçi University.

The Government recently made a new statement about those arrested during the police intervention in the South Campus last night.

According to information announced by the Istanbul governorate, the police entered the campus of Boğaziçi University last night and arrested 51 people.

All those arrested were said to be students. It was reported that 50 students were students from Boğaziçi University and 1 student from another university. The following statements were included in the statement made by the government;

The suspects (50) who were detained due to the blockade of the Rectorate building were determined to be students from Boğaziçi University and (1) the suspect was a student from another university.

FEBRUARY 1 DETENTIONS

An operation against the rector’s protests was carried out at Boğaziçi University on February 1, 2021 in Istanbul.

The Istanbul governorate announced that seven of the 108 people detained in these operations were students from Boğaziçi University, 101 suspects were not Boğaziçi students, and 15 students were not studying at the university level.

98 PEOPLE RELEASED

The Istanbul Governorate announced in the morning that 98 of the 159 people arrested on February 1 were released after their testimony.

BOĞAZİÇİ UNIVERSITY PROTESTS

The students started the protests after Melih Bulu was appointed rector of Boğaziçi University. Yesterday, in front of the South Campus, Prof. Dr. The students who were waiting to speak with Melih Bulu faced police intervention.

Police entering the campus were said to have warned that curfew had begun.
