Hundreds of people gathered near the police station near the train station in the north of Brussels, protesting against the police after the 23-year-old “Ibrahima Barrie” died in custody on Saturday night.
The incidents escalated when some of the protesters shouting slogans such as “Black life is important”, “Justice for Ibrahima” and “Killer police”, threw stones at the police and became enraged.
A group of protesters, who intervened the police with water cannons, dispersed through the side streets. Some of the protesters set fire to the entrance of another nearby police station, a nearby vehicle and some garbage cans.
While the windows of many police vehicles were smashed, some protesters also damaged ATMs and shops in the area.
STONE IN THE KING’S VEHICLE
Meanwhile, a stone was thrown at the vehicle of King Philippe of Belgium, which passed through the region where the protests were taking place by chance. The car carrying King Philip quickly sped away from the scene. It is unknown if King Philip was in the vehicle at the time.

Some people were injured by the intervention of the police. While the injured were taken to the hospital by ambulance, many protesters were detained.
The police wanted to arrest İbrahima Barrie on Saturday night, near the train station in the north of Brussels, for not complying with the measures taken to combat the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19).
Barrie was said to have recorded a police video on his cell phone, then ran and got away.
It was revealed that Barrie, who was captured and taken to the police station, lost consciousness an hour later and died at the hospital to which he was taken. The Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into the death of the young man.
