TURKSTAT announced December consumer inflation. According to TURKSTAT data, while the CPI increased by 1.25 percent in December, the annual inflation that will affect the salaries of civil servants and pensioners was 14.6 percent. The CPI (2003 = 100) increased 12.28 percent in December 2020 compared to twelve-month averages.
The main groups with a low increase compared to the same month of the previous year were alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 0.65 percent, communication with 5.73 percent and education with 6.84 percent, respectively.
On the other hand, the main groups with the greatest increase compared to the same month of the previous year were various goods and services with 28.12 percent, transportation with 21.12 percent and food and non-alcoholic beverages with 20.61 percent, respectively .
Other large groups that decreased in December 2020 by main spending groups were miscellaneous goods and services with 0.58 percent, education with 0.03 percent, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 0.01 percent.
On the other hand, the groups with high increases in December 2020 were household items with 3.46 percent, transportation with 2.64 percent and food and soft drinks with 2.53 percent, respectively.
In December 2020, the average price of 98 items out of 418 items covered in the index decreased, while the average price of 36 items was unchanged. The average price of 284 items increased.
