The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that it has suspended the decision to mass-produce the full capacity of the F-35 aircraft due to the delay in combat tests.
The decision made by Ellen Lord, Deputy Under Secretary for Procurement and Maintenance at the Pentagon, was announced by Jessica Maxwell, the Lord’s spokeswoman.
Stating that the start of full-capacity mass production of the F-35 aircraft was indefinitely delayed due to the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) and technical issues, Maxwell emphasized that low-speed mass production continues as planned.
While the Pentagon has been waiting for the completion of combat simulation tests of the aircraft for about 3 years, it was claimed that the Kovid-19 outbreak and other technical reasons delayed these tests.
Consequently, the Pentagon has suspended the budget of $ 398 billion allocated for serial production of F-35s.
Joe Biden’s defense team, who will take office on January 20, is expected to decide the next course of the F-35 program and the fate of the full-capacity mass production decision.
