Founding partner of the German biotechnology company BioNTech, which developed the new type of coronavirus vaccine (Kovid-19). Dr. Uğur Şahin warned about the coronavirus vaccine.
Speaking to the German weekly news magazine Der Spiegel, Şahin said that, together with Pfizer, they continue to work to increase vaccine production and that the vaccine supply may fail until other vaccines are applied.
The competent authorities in Europe approved the use of the Biontech-Pfizer vaccine and vaccination began on December 27. However, some vaccination centers in Germany were temporarily closed after December 27.
“THE SITUATION DOES NOT SEEM POSITIVE”
Şahin said the situation in question did not seem positive, and that they had to fill the gap with their own vaccines because other vaccines were not approved on the mainland. Relevant authorities in Europe are expected to approve Moderna’s vaccine on January 6.
Regarding the coronavirus mutation detected in the United Kingdom, Şahin said that the vaccine they developed could be effective against the mutation, the tests on this topic continued and they would soon obtain results.
Stating that efforts are being made to store the vaccine that should be kept at -70 degrees more easily, Şahin explained that the new-generation vaccine can be stored in higher degrees towards the end of the summer.
