The detained defendant Ercüment Arslan made the following defense in his first statement before the prosecution:

The detained defendant Aykut Günay stated that he did not accept the charges in his defense. In a call to the 112 Emergency Call Center on May 22, 2020, Fatma Günay was reported missing. Teams from the Uzunköprü District Gendarmerie Command went to the village of Kavakayazma, where Gunay resides, and conducted searches. As the search continued, the person named HG, who lived in the village, found a body covered in bushes in the dry water channel while grazing the animals. Subsequently, the teams that went to the scene determined that the body found belonged to Fatma Günay. When launching an investigation into the incident, the teams detained suspects Aykut Günay, Ercüment Arslan and Jülide Aygün.
