Last minute: Severe earthquake in Croatia!

In the Balkan country, which was rocked by earthquakes of magnitude 5.2 and 5 on Monday, today a 6.3 earthquake occurred at the same point.

In the epicenter of Croatia, 46 km southeast of the capital, Zagreb, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km.

The earthquake occurred in the town of Petrinja, near Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, according to the European Seismological Center for the Mediterranean (EMSC).

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake was claimed to have occurred prior to the earthquake which occurred at 11:19 local time. After the earthquake, some buildings were destroyed in the neighborhoods near the capital, Zagreb.

Croatia’s neighbor Slovenia shut down its nuclear power plant as a precaution after the earthquake.

According to data from the American Center for Geological Research (USGS), the severe earthquake was felt in Croatia, as well as in Italy, North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania, Austria, Slovakia, Germany and the Czech Republic. Thus, 15 countries felt the earthquake.

The Reuters news agency reports that residents of the capital Zagreb are rushing out onto the streets in panic from shaking buildings. The American Associated Press (AP) news agency announced that some buildings were completely destroyed and some were injured, according to preliminary information.
