The Dutch Defense Ministry announced that they are in talks with the Health Ministry on staff support for hospitals and nursing homes for the elderly and disabled.
During the week, the Dutch army provided care support to a nursing home in the city of Ede, where many elderly people died due to the epidemic.
According to the BBC Turkish news, in the Netherlands, one of the countries where the mutated variant of the emerging corona virus is seen in the United Kingdom, the increase in cases continues despite the strict precautions applied.
Especially in the eastern and northern regions of the country, many hospitals and care centers are in a difficult situation due to the density of patients and lack of staff.
The Groningen and Twente regions sought help from the armed forces, as many health and sanitation workers caught in Covid-19 were unable to go to work.
Groningen Mayor Koen Schuiling stated that there is an unprecedented need for personnel and called on the armed forces to provide this support urgently.
With the Twente Security Zone, hospitals also emphasized that there was a very serious increase in the number of admitted patients and reported that Covid-19 services were fully booked. Emphasizing that emergency and intensive care are becoming less available, regional administrators called the military to service.
Gelderland state cities also requested urgent help, citing an alarming situation. The health sector is concerned that if military aid does not arrive, basic care assistance in hospitals and nursing homes will no longer be available.
The Dutch Defense Ministry spokesman told RTL News: “The cry for help reached us. “We are investigating the possibilities of assistance in consultation with the Ministry of Health.”
The Netherlands Security Council, which will meet on Monday, will consider the request for deployment of military personnel in civilian hospitals and nursing homes for the elderly and disabled.
The Dutch army had provided personal support to a care center for the elderly in the city of Ede during the week. In a nursing home where 11 people died in recent weeks due to the coronavirus and 45 elderly were ill, most of the staff were infected.
The management of the nursing home then asked the soldiers for help. The Dutch Ministry of Defense has commissioned a unit to serve vulnerable people. The management of the nursing home announced that the inauguration of the army relieved both themselves and the elderly.
The Dutch army also participated in the establishment of 20 health points in November, where massive tests of the corona virus were carried out.
