The water and air accumulated in the lungs of hospitalized coronavirus patients in the intensive care unit were removed using the drainage method.
During this unfiltered single-tube process, the virus spread into the air, increasing the risk of transmitting the virus to healthcare workers.
A group of thoracic surgeons in Izmir developed a filter system that eliminates the risk of spreading the virus during the drainage procedure.
THE VIRUS HAS NOT BEEN SEEN ON THE HEALTH TEAM FOR 7 MONTHS
Assoc. Dr. Kenan Can Ceylan said about the new system: “This device consists of two bottles and a filter. One of the bottles is the patient’s system, after adding this bottle to the second bottle, we put an alcohol-based disinfectant in the second bottle. “We prevent the virus from getting out by putting in a filter,” he said.
The technique, inspired by the HEPA filter system in operating rooms, was first tested at the Suat Seren Hospital for Chest Diseases of the University of Health Sciences.
It was observed that the team that used the system for 7 months did not contract coronavirus.
THE SUCCESS OF THE SYSTEM IS IN THE INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL JOURNAL
Assoc. Dr. Serkan Yazgan said that with the developed system they prevented healthcare workers from taking a serious risk.
The success of the system has also attracted the attention of international medical circles. The system was recommended for all health professionals in an international medical journal.
