Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitriy Kuleba and Ukraine’s Defense Minister Andrey Taran, along with National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, who paid an official visit to the Ukraine’s capital Kiev held a briefing on the 2 + 2 format for the first time.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitriy Külebi spoke at the meeting, highlighting the importance of relations with Turkey, saying:
* With great pleasure, we welcome our Turkish friends to Ukraine. We held our first meeting in quad format. The quad format is a special format that allows the interaction between two states. The Defense and Foreign Ministers of the two countries meet and discuss defense and security details.
* The President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelenskiy, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, agreed on the creation of this format. I want to say with pride that we open a new page in the history of relations between Ukraine and Turkey. We also discuss what we will discuss at the next meeting.
* Together with our colleagues at this meeting chaired by the announcing presidents, we believe that the driving force of Ukraine-Turkey relations. In addition, this meeting has an important role in our region.
“A HISTORICAL MEETING WAS HELD TODAY”
Ukraine’s Defense Minister Andrey Taran stated that the meeting was the first in history and used the following statements:
* I believe that this meeting with the participation of 4 ministers today is a historical event. This meeting shows that Ukraine and Turkey attached importance to the strategic partnership. It is not a coincidence that our meeting discussed security in the Black Sea and Azov seas. That region is under heavy pressure due to the aggressive attitude of Russia. I am very happy to have the same opinion as my Turkish colleagues on this matter.
* The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Cabinet with the military agreements signed between the government of Turkey undertake to intensify cooperation with the passing of life. We are also developing our military and technical cooperation, but also in Turkey. As you know, agreements have been signed on corvettes and UAVs that will meet the needs of the Ukrainian Air Force.
