The incident took place on Tuesday, September 29, around 10:00 p.m. in an apartment on Kerim Kaptanlar Street in the Güllerpınarı district.
According to the complaint, Halime O. and her neighbors reported the situation to police teams upon hearing the fighting from the house where her husband Recep O lived. Many police officers were dispatched to the address listed in the notice.
POLICE AND EXIT FROM THE BALCONY
The police knocked on the door of the house where the screams came from, but no one opened it. After obtaining permission from the prosecutor’s office, the teams entered the house on the first floor from the balcony.
As the police found Halime O. desperate to be beaten to death, the angry husband was neutralized. Halime O., who was bloody from the blows she received from various parts of her body, was taken by ambulance to the Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University Research and Training Hospital.
THE THREATS WERE RESISTING THE POLICE
Recep O. continued to resist and made threats while the police detained him. As the suspect continued to resist, he was operated with tear gas. Recep O., who resisted the police, was arrested and taken to the police station.
Recep O., who was sent to court after his actions at the police station, was arrested and sent to prison by the criminal justice of the peace for the crimes of “deliberate injury and deprivation of liberty.”
FIRST TIME THE JUDGE APPEARED
The first hearing of the trial of Recep O., detained on charges of ‘deliberate injury and deprivation of liberty’, appeared today before the judge at the First High Criminal Court of Alanya.
Although the victim Halime O. did not attend the hearing, the accused Recep O. attended the hearing through SEGBİS from the prison where he was detained. Halime Şenli, Fatma Gürsoy and Emine Gülcan Avanaz were also present at the hearing on behalf of the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Board of the Antalya Bar Association.
“I HIT MY WIFE ONCE ONCE”
Defendant Recep O. stated that he did not regret his defense and said: “I hit my wife only once. He did it alone, ”he demanded his acquittal.
After the defense, the court board postponed the hearing until March 9, 2021. Halime Şenli, who attended the hearing, argued that Halime O. was subjected to severe violence by her husband on September 29, and said the next;
“Her husband Recep O. has inflicted violence on her husband for a long time. There has been a suspension decision 5 times before. That day there was also a suspension decision. The man comes home to talk and the woman leads him to the balcony. Her husband says, “Why did you decide?” The woman also finds the opportunity to lock her on the balcony and escape. But his wife breaks the balcony window and attacks Halime with the glass. Halime has serious injuries. He had two surgeries. Neighbors notify the police. He does not let the incoming policemen in. “
“KILL ME IF IT COMES FROM THE PRISONER”
Şenli stated that they were pleased that the case was opened with a heavy penalty for attempted total murder.
* Halime is also afraid that “if he gets out of jail he will kill me”. His family took him. We ask the court to take the severest punishment so that he does not dare to approach Halime again. Let this decision be an example.
* We want those who inflict violence on their spouses to know that they will be punished and arrested. We want to make Halime’s voice heard. We want Halime never to die again. As the Bar Association, we will follow the case.
* We have a problem, the courts do not accept the request of the bar associations, but Halime does not have a lawyer. Halime has no money to hire a lawyer. If we do not participate in these cases, they will remain defenseless, without a lawyer. We hope the court will be sensitive to this. İHA
