Faculty member of Sakarya University Prof. Dr. Ebubekir Sofuoğlu’s words “universities nest of prostitution” provoked a reaction.
The Küçükçekmece Prosecutor’s Office is reported to have launched an investigation for “inciting the public to hatred and hostility.”
Prof. Dr. Ebubekir Sofuoğlu used the term “home of prostitution” for universities in a television program he attended.
The rector of the university also announced that “the necessary procedures have been initiated regarding the speech in question.”

The President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Yekta Saraç said: “Your university has initiated a process on the statements you made about our universities in a television program attended by a faculty member of Sakarya University and which have rightly been criticized by the public. We would like to affirm that academic freedom of expression must not be misinterpreted and our professors must be extremely careful when discussing our nation’s values and sensitive issues and concepts. “
