The case was concluded against the defendant Akın Kutlu (22), who killed Emre Tyler Mays (17), son of the famous wine company Figen and Randolp Mays, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance at the entrance of the emergency room of the Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Research and Training Hospital.
While the detained defendant Akın Kutlu was attending the hearing at the 15th Superior Criminal Court of Istanbul through SEGBİS, Emre Tyler Mays’ mother, Figen Mays, his father Randolp Mays and the party’s lawyers were present at the hearing.
At the hearing, the family’s lawyers, who ruled on the opinion issued by the prosecutor at the previous hearing, demanded that the accused be punished.
The defendant Akın Kutlu’s lawyer expressed his demands for acquittal and release. The president of the court asked the defendant Akın Kutlu for his last words, saying that the case would be decided.
THE HEAVY PENALTY, WOULD LEAVE NO CONSEQUENCE
Defendant Akın Kutlu said: “This is an event that can happen to one person in a million. I suffer from my conscience. The harshest punishment is my remorse. I am very sorry. I think they will punish me fairly ”.
The court sentenced the defendant Akın Kutlu to aggravated life imprisonment for “deliberately killing the child”. The court, which did not apply any reduction in the sentence of the accused, decided to continue his detention.
“THESE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT WALK ON THE STREET”
Emre Mays’ family made a statement in front of the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after the hearing.
Mays’ mother, Figen Mays, said: “One event in a million. Yes, it is an event of one in a million, but it can happen to all of us, it happened to us. This criminal organization is a family. His father was hospitalized for two murders, tried and released. His son was also very sorry to be released from this murder, but he committed this murder accidentally, he demanded that I be released. A very sorry person says that I am fine with my punishment. But whatever my punishment, he did not say it was okay because they are people from the crime machine. These people should not be on the street because it is a danger to everyone. I thank the judicial commission for the decision taken. “
“FOR EXAMPLE”
The family’s lawyer, Deniz Ketenci, said: “The court decided aggravated life in prison. It did not implement any discount provisions. May this decision, these and others of a similar nature to prevent assassination be committed in Turkey. We hope he sets an example ”.
