İsmet Işık from Konya began his military service at Hasdal Barracks in Istanbul in 2000.
Işık, who remained in the barracks as the main union, was appointed director of the canteen. However, Işık disappeared on June 24, 2001 after she told a friend that she was going to have tea with him.
The next morning, military officers called Father Durmuş Işık in Konya and reported that his son had taken 800 lire from the dining room and deserted. Despite all the searches carried out at that time, no trace of İsmet Işık was found.
Murder appeared on the phone 6 years ago
In 2014, Adem A., who lives in Sivas, called Durmuş Işık on the phone and said that his son was killed by his brother-in-law Orhan Doğan, who was in prison for another murder crime. Upon learning that his son, who is said to have escaped, was killed, Father Işık explained what happened as follows:
* In 2014, when I was working at the workplace, a person named Adem A. from Sivas made a phone call. Regarding the murder of his son-in-law, İlyas A. and his brother-in-law, Orhan Doğan, in prison for a murder they committed, he said: “We had a friend from the canteen in the army in Istanbul.
* We kill him and bury him in the same place as our villager Bekir Şahin. No one has found his body and they don’t know that we killed him. Let’s bury this and remove it. He told me that ‘nobody makes any difference’.
* Adem A. said that his son Ilyas called him and said: ‘Contact the Konya family of the murdered and explain the situation.’ I learned that my son was not deserting, he was killed by two of his fellow soldiers. I reported the situation to the prosecution. A lawsuit was filed against Orhan Doğan and Bekir Şahin.
* Orhan Doğan was already under arrest, and Bekir Şahin was also arrested. 64 hearings were held and they were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. The Supreme Court upheld the decision.
Bones found after 19 years
Durmuş Işık stated that the bones of her son İsmet Işık were found a month ago and said: “The murder of our son made us very saddened. He didn’t even have a grave. Orhan Doğan, who was in Sivas Prison before the pandemic, wrote a request to the prosecutor’s office and said: “If I am transferred to Istanbul for security reasons, I can show the place where I killed İsmet Işık.” The transplant was delayed due to the pandemic. About a month ago Orhan Doğan showed me the place where my son’s body was buried in Hasdal Barracks. As a result of the excavation work, fragments of bones, athlete, sweatpants and sneakers were found. They took DNA samples from us. The DNA comparison is currently in progress. We lived in pain for 19 years without my son’s grave. After the DNA test, we will bury him in the cemetery. But my son was killed while doing military service. His bones were found in military barracks. We want my son to receive a ‘Certificate of Martyrdom’ and bury my son until martyrdom, “he said.
They want martyrdom to be given to them
Erol Işık, brother of the murdered İsmet Işık, asked for a ‘Certificate of Martyrdom’ for his brother and said:
* We live with this pain. We said destiny, we said nothing to do. After the news we received after 19 years, we do not want to experience pain again. According to the news that the Force Command gave us, we will first bury him in the normal cemetery, then after the martyrdom occurs, he will be removed from the normal cemetery and buried in martyrdom.
* My brother was doing military service like all Turkish boys. My brother did not go to play marbles. He went to do his duty and was a canteen. He fought so that our state’s money was not stolen.
* He became a target for state money and was assassinated. Now what is this but martyrdom? We demand the help of our state elders in this regard. We ask that martyrdom be transmitted to us and buried where it should be, martyrdom. We also move our request to the necessary places on the subject.
Erol Işık said that he named his son İsmet to keep his brother alive. (DHA)
