IMM’s Yerebatan Cistern modernization project was not approved

IMM Undersecretary General Mahir Polat announced that the Regional Board for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage responded 52 days later and that the IMM project was not approved.

The project presented by IMM to the Regional Board of the Directorate for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture to strengthen the historic Basilica Cistern of Sultanahmet received a response 52 days later. In announcing the news on his social media account, IMM Under Secretary General Mahir Polat stated that the Board of Conservation did not approve the IMM project.

“HOW MUCH IS IT WORTH HAS NOT APPROVED OUR PROJECT”

Polat used the following expressions in his post:

* After 52 days, the Board of Conservation unfortunately did not approve our Basilica Cistern project.

* Our project, which has the signature of 3 professors, 1 doctorate in Byzantine Cisterns, 1 master architect specialist in restoration, 2 structural engineers expert in restoration, was transferred to the new delegations as if we were not wasting time.

“YEREBATAN SARNICI CANNOT WAIT”

Oktay Özel, Head of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the IMM, cited the position of the Deputy Secretary General of the IMM, Mahir Polat, and used the following statements:

* With a decision that started the process after 52 days, the Project to Strengthen the Basilica Cistern was not approved. The opinion of our Scientific Advisory Council was ignored.

* We call on the protection board to return as soon as possible after the decision made. The Basilica Cistern can’t wait.
